Kids Mobile Crisis Team

MHR recently received additional state funding for the continuation of our KidsMobile Crisis Team program.

The team serves youth ages 0-25 in crisis that presents a risk to themselves, their families, or others due to mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. If you know a youth in crisis, the Kids Mobile Crisis Team can help you. Call Pathways 211 or 740-345-HELP and ask for help from the Kids Mobile Crisis Team.

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services recently awarded $325,000 for a collaborative partnership in Delaware, Morrow, Fairfield, Licking, and Knox Counties to continue to address critical issues faced by families with youth in crisis.  Licking and Knox Counties started this collaborative program through this grant funding in 2014.  Fairfield County joined this collaborative program in 2017, and Delaware and Morrow Counties joined the collaborative in 2019.

This program is designed specifically for families with youth aged 0-25 who present a risk to themselves, their families, or others due to mental illness and/or developmental disabilities. Many of these youth are not currently connected with services.

The grant will fund services of the Kids Mobile Crisis Team program, including intensive care coordination and targeted crisis intervention services; purchase of emergency respite care and short-term crisis residential treatment bed days; and family support including transportation costs.

This program is a more stabilizing and supportive approach versus out-of-home placement which has a significantly higher cost, a cost measured not only in currency but the emotional and developmental toll caused by the disruption of a youth’s connection with their family and the community.

Since the program’s launch in 2014, it has served almost 1400 youth and their families, with nearly 1000 of these youth and families new to the behavioral healthcare system.

Local participants in the collaborative include The Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities (LCBDD), Mental Health and Recovery for Licking and Knox Counties (MHR), Behavioral Healthcare Partners of Central Ohio (BHP), and Pathways of Central Ohio.
